Micro- and nano-acoustic devices enable integrated systems with a variety of applications ranging from sensing to signal processing. We investigate the physics, applications and integration of linear and nonlinear acoustic devices in semiconductor substrates and piezoelectric films. In particular, we target realization of the next generation of integrated cm- and mm-wave signal processors such as circulators, filters and frequency references. This requires surpassing substantial challenges with energy dissipation, signal transduction, coherence and reciprocity, and power handling at the nano-scale. We also follow the application of nano-acoustics to implement test-vehicles for ultra-precision sensing and scientific explorations such as morphological spectroscopy of atomic layered films and detection of crystal phase transitions.
